The DEWALT DW788 1.3 Amp 20-Inch Variable-Speed scroll saw has a tool-free blade change that you are going to love and a lot of features that you are going to love just as much.

Not only will you be able to cut your wood as intricately as possible, but you are also going to be able to put in a lot of work with relatively less effort when compared to other heavy-duty scroll saws.

DW788 Scroll Saw Features

What We Like

One of the main things that we really like about the DW788 scroll saw is that it has a double parallel-link arm.

It was designed in such a manner to give you reduced vibration and noise. This means that all of your cuts are going to be intricate since you are going to be able to focus on what you are doing.

Less wear and tear on both your hands and ears are very important when it comes to precision cutting.

You can guide the movements of the blade and focus on the task at hand without having to worry about covering your ears or holding down the wood or scroll saw itself too much.

For an extremely versatile scroll saw, this tool-free blade is able to easily clamp down and be changed in a matter of seconds.

If you’re someone who works with a lot of wood, you need to be able to change the blade that you are working with to make sure that your cuts are as fine as possible.

Being able to change blades at a consistent speed that doesn’t slow down your productivity is more valuable than people realize, and this is something we believe the DW788 scroll saw is able to achieve extremely well because of its design.

Replacing a scroll saw blade with minimal effort and distraction means that you can keep your head in the game at all times.

Another great thing about the DEWALT DW788 is the easy access to all the controls.

It features a standard on and off switch, an electronic variable speed that you can easily adjust, a flexible dust blower (to make sure that your work area stays as clean as possible), and a blade tensioning lever.

All of these are located on the front upper arm so they can easily be accessed in the middle of a project.

If you haven’t picked up on this yet, we at TBSS are all about productivity and efficiency. And any saw that passes these tests is considered a winner in our book.

What We Don’t Like

*2021 Update: At the time this review was written, companies across all sectors were experiencing manufacturing and logistical setbacks due to Covid 19. The below information pertains specifically to DEWALT orders received by Amazon customers, but we want to assure our readers that we’ve taken all setbacks into consideration.

There seem to be a lot of manufacturing problems cropping up lately, and this might be because of the recent changes that the company has undergone during the past few months.

We suggest that you wait a bit to order your unit, since the company will likely have the kinks ironed out, and you’ll probably get a DW788 with little to no defects.

We’ve also been hearing a lot of reports about some crucial bolts missing, which can prove to be extremely unsafe.

We strongly suggest that you double-check everything before using it to make sure that you are not putting yourself or your crew in danger.

Wrapping it Up

The DW788 Scroll Saw wins a whole five stars from us. Issues with the actual manufacturing and performance aside, we feel that the DW788 has earned a perfect score.

DEWALT has a long track record of producing solid performing products overall.

We’ve been happy with most of the other DEWALT power saws that have come our way so far, so we don’t see how anyone could go wrong with this one!
